“Harnessing the Power of Arts Integration” - The Teaching Channel

by Ms. Denis

Visit The Teaching Channel's Harnessing the Power of Arts Integration for lesson plans and inspiration for the integration of the arts into the common core curriculum.

"Learning through the arts is a dynamic way to engage students. But arts integration is more than just an engagement strategy - it's a powerful way for students to gain and express understanding. The Teaching Channel is really excited to present a new series of 19 videos  on arts integration, in partnership with The Getty Museum. In this series, we see teachers engage their students in learning through the arts in a variety of grade levels, subject areas, and contexts. It's inspiring to watch teachers use arts integration with English Language Learners, students in Special Education, and in conjunction with the Common Core."

Sample Edited Stratton Podcast

by Ms. Kranich

If you'd like your students to create audio files and distribute them as podcasts on this website, Mr. Gratkins and Ms. Denis can show you how.  If you'd like my help, email me: I've created easy user manuals for Twisted Wave, the online audio recording/editing software, that works with Chrome Books, and Sound Cloud, a service where Stratton staff can upload your students' audio files, and embed them on this website.

Project H: Toolbox for Design-Based Projects in the Classroom

by Ms. Denis

Project H's website offers an amazing toolbox of in the classroom design-based lesson plans and projects. Check them out here

Take a look around and get inspired by the rest of the website too! smile

"Project H uses the power of creativity, design, and hands-on building to amplify the raw brilliance of youth, transform communities, and improve K-12 public education from within. Our programs teach rigorous design iteration, tinkering, applied arts and sciences, and vocational building skills to give young people the creative, technical, and leadership tools necessary to make positive, long-lasting change in their lives and their communities.

Our youth-led public design projects are rooted in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) content to connect in-school learning to out-of-school possibility. We believe that design is a powerful medium that is an active response to a context, a personal expression, a physical challenge, and a social act that builds citizenship in the next generation.

Exploring the intersection of physical sciences, engineering, architecture, design, social justice, and community development, projects built by our youth include an award winning 2,000 square-foot farmers market structure, iconic downtown landmarks, farmstands, playgrounds, school gardens, an obstacle course, public chicken coops, and their own learning facilities."
